Importance of Zika Education for Couples Trying to Conceive

Zika has been a hot topic in the news lately, causing much concern for couples trying to conceive. Despite the widespread knowledge regarding precautions, treatment, and delaying pregnancy related to Zika exposure and travel to Zika infected areas, it appears as many couples are still not following the suggested guidelines. It is important for couples looking to conceive to be educated on the risks and recommendations from the CDC, as well as be educated on options that exist that may help avoid delaying attempts at conception. Sperm freezing is an option available to couples that may help allow certain travel plans to remain while avoiding the suggested 6 month delay in conception suggested for men traveling to Zika infected areas.

Sperm freezing is a common procedure performed at Michigan Center for Fertility and Women’s Health, to learn more about this option please feel free to contact our office at 586-576-0431.

An interesting survey performed at NYU Fertility Center demonstrated the need for better education for patients relating to wait times, as well as for options such as sperm freezing.
